HOW TO APPLY A THEME ON TRADINGVIEW
Every theme on TradingViewThemes.com is a set of chart colors made by another trader. TradingView doesn't import themes from other sites, so you copy the colors into your chart settings yourself. It takes a couple of minutes, and you only do it once: save the result as a template and it's one click from then on.
Before you start
Open the theme you want to use. Its page has a live preview and a Theme Settings panel laid out like TradingView's own chart settings, with the same tabs in the same order, so you can work down them side by side. Click any color in the panel to copy its hex code, or open Hex codes for this theme under the chart to see every color at once.
1. Open chart settings
On your TradingView chart, click the gear icon, or right-click the chart and choose Settings…
2. Symbol tab: candles
This tab gives the candles their look.
- Body, Borders and Wick each have two colors. The first is for rising candles, the second for falling ones.
- Click a color box, paste the hex code into the color picker, and match the opacity too if the theme uses one.
- If Borders or Wick is unticked in the theme's settings panel, untick it too.
- If Color bars based on previous close is ticked in the theme's settings panel, tick it too.
3. Scales and lines tab: price lines
Symbol is the line that marks the latest price, and High and low marks the highest and lowest prices on screen. Tick or untick each one to match the theme's settings panel, and set its color.
4. Canvas tab: background, grid and scales
- Background: choose Solid or Gradient to match the theme. A gradient theme has two colors, a start and an end.
- Grid lines: pick the mode the theme uses (Vert and horz, Vert only, Horz only or None), then set the colors. Grid lines often use a low opacity so they stay in the background.
- Pane separators and Crosshair: set their colors. The crosshair's line style is in the theme's settings panel.
- Scales: set the Text and Lines colors, and the font size shown in the theme's settings panel.
- Margins: copy the top and bottom margins from the settings panel if you want the same spacing.
5. Save it as a template
At the bottom of the settings dialog, open the Template menu, choose Save as… and give your theme a name. Click Ok to close the dialog. To switch themes later, open settings, pick a template from the Template menu, and click Ok.
Questions
Why doesn't my chart look exactly like the preview?
The preview uses sample prices on a clean chart. Your own indicators and drawings keep their own colors, and so does anything the theme doesn't set.
What does opacity mean?
How solid a color is. At 100% it's fully solid; lower values let the background show through. Themes often use it to keep grid lines subtle.
Can I change a theme?
Yes. Open any theme and click Duplicate to load it into the editor, change what you like, and publish it as your own. Publishing needs a free account.
